GROUP HOMES

Overview

Home Sweet Home Care provides small, licensed group homes for adults and teens with intellectual, developmental, or mental disabilities. We are fully licensed by the State of Virginia and comply with Medicaid Standards and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).

Families looking for safe and supportive housing often worry about supervision, dignity, and inclusion. That’s why our homes are designed as warm, single-family residences with no more than four residents. Each home is staffed 24/7 by trained professionals who deliver care, structure, and encouragement. Residents build independence through healthy routines, social activities, and skill-building—while staying connected to their community.

Nestled near Fredericksburg’s vibrant shopping and parks – just minutes from Central Park’s 200+ retailers and the Spotsylvania Towne Centre Mall – our home provides a safe, comfortable environment for adults with intellectual disabilities. Inside, you’ll find a sunny large family room with plush sofas and a downstairs recreational area filled with games, crafts, and TV for movie nights. A cozy reception area welcomes visiting family members with comfortable chairs, a coffee station and complimentary snacks and beverages, so visits feel relaxed and inviting. Tasteful, homey touches abound: soft throw pillows, warm lamps, houseplants, and framed photos of residents and loved ones make the house feel truly like a family living room. This personal, family-like setting is designed to foster independence and dignity for each resident .

Our dedicated caregivers are on duty around the clock, providing trained 24/7 support to ensure every need is met. We empower residents to achieve personal goals and coordinating with vocational and community resources like Virginia’s DARS vocational services, local chapters of The Arc, and assistance with Social Security benefits. Residents enjoy an active social life, from playing in Special Olympics teams to joining local clubs. In Fredericksburg, we celebrate community – our residents smile on the red carpet at the annual Night to Shine prom for people with disabilities, and they attend neighborhood holiday parties and family-style events. With parks, cafes and shops nearby, family outings and visits are both easy and frequent, so everyone stays connected.

In every detail, we treat each person like family. Plush throw blankets and the aroma of home-baked cookies create a cozy atmosphere that immediately feels welcoming. We have warm traditions – for example, a “memory wall” corner where staff and loved one’s post photos and mementos celebrating each resident’s life – so that everyone’s story is honored. Caregivers know residents by name and even plan little surprises, whether it’s baking a favorite cake on a birthday or hosting a backyard barbeque. Because our staff are licensed and trained, and present day and night, families can be confident their loved ones are safe, healthy and cherished here. This nurturing, family-like atmosphere – with gentle support, sunny gathering spaces, and heartfelt care at every turn – gives families peace of mind and makes our home a place where residents truly belong.

Our home’s philosophy and features reflect best practices in developmental disability services and community resources in Fredericksburg.
